In January 2007 the first team from Frontier camp (a camp who partnered with Jacob’s Well) was sent to help with a day of camp.  It was short and it could only serve a few of the children, but it was a good start. Since then many other groups and people developed an interest in the camp. These groups and Frontier Camp have been sending teams every year. As it is developing into an overnight camp, 15 cabins, a shower house, and a kitchen have been built. And now most all of the village kids have been able to participate in the camp.  The necessary staff is coming together and God is continuing to use the camp. The Jacob’s Well camp staff is now comprised of locals and partnering with internationals. There are now camps and church retreats going on every year.

]]> http://www.jacobswellcamp.org/2011/11/a-youth-camp-in-haiti/feed/ 0 Frontier Camp Staff Team 2010 http://www.jacobswellcamp.org/2010/09/haiti-5/ http://www.jacobswellcamp.org/2010/09/haiti-5/#comments Wed, 01 Sep 2010 19:30:01 +0000 admin http://www.jacobswellcamp.org/?p=88 Although it rained all night and some this morning, the Lord has given our team a full day in which to pour a slab!  By full day, what I mean is that at 9:00 tonight, there was a team of 25 Haitians in addition to our team still going strong with the intent to finish tonight.  Estimated time of completion  – keeping in mind the perspective of several eternal optimists =)   – maybe midnight.  At 6:00, they ran out of gravel, so another load was delivered, only the closest the truck could get to the site was about a quarter of a mile.  There is a bucket brigade bringing gravel by the bucketful now.  The mixer is small (about 1/2 cubic yard) and the slab needs 20 cubic yards.  They are about 3/4 of the way through pouring now.  Although they are tired and their feet are pruny, the morale sounded great over the phone.  I could hear Greta and John leading the crew in a hardy rendition of “I’ve Been Workin’ on the Railroad” as they polished the slab with trowels.

The team was able to assemble one of the temporary houses and to show the Haitians how to put them together, so they will be able to complete the rest of them after our team leaves.  Hans reported that they are fairly simple to construct.

There is a team being led by Daniel Frantz currently finishing plumbing.  Hans said that the team has been amazing with everyone working tirelessly and without complaint.  What a crew!!

Betty and Gersan are encouraged with the progress and are so pleased with the well-built foundation the team is leaving for them.  A Haitian who has worked as a mason for nine years in the D.R. will be able to easily carry out construction with his crew and the plans that will be left for them.

Tomorrow, the Valcins will be serving our team a final meal on site at 10:00 a.m. before they leave at 11:30 for Cap Haitian.  They will fly to F.L. at 3:00 and spend the night in a Comfort Inn.  Monday, they will fly out at 10:00, landing in Houston at 2:30.

Oh, and Hans reported feeling much better this morning after washing his hair in rain water from his tent – he learned that trick from Tom =).
